Bathtime Guide
Bathing has been practiced by cultures all over the world since the stone age to cleanse. Taking baths lowers stress & calms the nervous system, soothes muscles & reduces inflammation, and provides many health benefits when using medicinal herbs.
How to take an herbal bath
• Lay out all your supplies and set up the bath atmosphere (candles, music, bath pillow, etc.)
• Prepare herbal tea 20 min before bath for maximum benefits (see below) or simply hang the herb bag from the tub faucet so all the hot water runs over it. When the water is done, let the herb bag float in the water for the duration of the bath. You can even use it as a scrub this way!
•Add any extras to the bathwater (see next section)
• Soak for at least 20 min to absorb all the benefits. And breathe in that steam!
• Carry out your usual wash routine when finished soaking.
• Limit baths to 1-2x per week to keep from drying out the skin.

– Large linen bag
– Pot or tea kettle
– 1/2 cup of your choice of herbs
Boil approximately a half cup of herbs in a large pot of water for 10-20 minutes. Steep for up to 8 hours depending on how strong you want the tea to be. Keep herbs in the bag for easy cleanup or strain when you’re done.
Pour the concentrated tea into bathwater just before you get in.
Extra Bathtime Tips
• Add 1–2 cups of Epsom Salt to ease weary muscles, reduce pain and inflammation, help remove toxins from the body, and soak up magnesium.
• Dissolve 0.25–2 cups of baking soda to soften the skin & bathwater. This can be good for conditions like eczema, psoriasis, yeast/fungal infections, diaper rash, UTIs, scars, and more.
• Add 0.5–1 cup (about a half can) of coconut milk to soften & hydrate the skin. (This seriously works. I come out so soft!)
• Add oatmeal and/or chickweed to add relief for itchy/irritating skin conditions like eczema.
• Essential oils can also be a great option, but never put them directly into bathwater. Add the recommended amount to an oil-based carrier, like coconut oil, baby shampoo, shower gel, etc.
• Bathe with the new/full moons to cleanse and call in new energy.
• Herbs can be re-used up to 3x! Dry out between uses to prevent mold. Then compost or toss in your yard!
Don't forget to make bathtime a ritual! Light a candle or incense, use an intention oil, put on some music, make a cup of tea, or grab a book. Customize the experience to something you will enjoy coming back to time and again.
