Rhubarb root  is milled from Rheum officinale, a plant in the buckwheat family native to China. While the leaves of the plant are potentially toxic die to a high concentration of oxalates, the root is one of the most widely used herbs in Traditional Chinese Medicine to support digestive health. The powder also lends astringent qualities to topical formulations.
